Yes. Delta Did Just Nominate Itself for the Safety Video Oscars (#Safetys)

So this just happened…

It’s a cute tie-in to the Oscars this weekend–all in good humour. I can’t help notice that the popular nominee for best actress in a Safety Video was snubbed by the Delta Safety Academy..which is bound to stir up all kinds of controversy.

UPDATE: Delta has since explained the Oscar-themed promotion behind the #Safetys (Quoting)

Who will take home the award for Best Stow in an Overhead Bin, Best Aisle Clearance, Best Breakthrough Performance and Lifetime Achievement? Tune in to Delta’s Twitter handle, @Delta, on Sunday, Feb. 28 at 5 p.m. to find out.

“We hope our customers will continue to pay attention to our important safety messages as we look back at some of our favourite safety video moments of the last few years and bestow upon them our most prestigious honour – a SAFETY award – in recognition of their excellence in onboard safety,” said Julieta McCurry, Delta’s General Manager–Brand Communications.

“Safety is our top priority, and our distinguished honourees represent an exceptional commitment to the safety of our customers and employees,” Julieta McCurry

Stay tuned on Twitter after the SAFETYS for acceptance speeches and red carpet photos from the night’s biggest winners beginning at 7 p.m. ET.

All right then. This is an interesting way to call attention to Delta’s contributions to the safety video genre, before the curtains close and the red carpet is rolled up (for the last time?).

Oh, and, by the way, can you spot the shark?

I just adore the first 2 seconds of this.
