It’s a bittersweet symphony this airline industry. Last year, around this time, in Rome, we celebrated the debut of Alitalia’s new uniforms.
Readers will recall that Hawaiian Airlines’ cooking show offers great quick recipes, and cooking tips from local chefs, for when you’d rather be at the beach. But if you’re dreaming of Napoli, hungry for risotto, and have always wanted to make the perfect Cannolo, the Alitalia food channel has you covered.
“Few airlines have undergone such radical change as the new Alitalia and it is now reaping the benefits of a robust new strategy built around dynamic and effective partnerships. After some difficult and challenging years, Alitalia has a great story to tell. We promised to create a world-class airline,” said Alitalia Vice Chairman James Hogan. “We are delivering on that promise and Alitalia today is as good as any airline in Europe.”
Alitalia has been undergoing a makeover since Etihad acquired a controlling share, revamped the business, and put Etihad people in house to monitor the evolving situation. In fact, Alitalia has reduced its loses in 2015 by a respectable €381 million.
But it’s still losing money.
The airline indicates it is: “on track for profitability by 2017..[with] strong 2015 performance.”
Alitalia has issued a statement of an incident of laser interference with flight crew on the aircraft carrying Pope Francis during his mission to Mexico.
Crew on flight AZ4000 reported on Friday 12 February, that during the landing phase of flight at Mexico City Airport, they were flashed by a laser light pointed at the aircraft. The Airbus A330 was transporting the Pontiff Havana to Mexico City.
