Finnair is ramping up its winter operations to Finnish Lapland for the 2025 season. It is offering a record number of flights to key Arctic destinations, including Rovaniemi, Kittilä, Ivalo, and Kuusamo. The expanded schedule supports rising demand for northern lights tourism, winter sports, and family travel to Santa’s hometown. Extra frequencies are focused on weekends to accommodate rental cottage changeover days.

More Flights to Lapland Than Ever Before

The airline is often called Santa’s official carrier. It is increasing weekly frequencies to Lapland’s most sought-after destinations during the peak travel months from December through March. This enhancement makes it easier than ever for international and domestic travelers to access Lapland’s winter wonderland.

“We are happy to be able to offer our customers even more comprehensive connections to all our Lapland destinations throughout the winter,” said Perttu Jolma, Vice President, Network at Finnair. “The additional flights will be focused especially on the high season from December to February, but we have also added flights in March, thus supporting the whole winter travel season.”

Record Capacity to Rovaniemi – The Official Hometown of Santa Claus

  • Up to 72 weekly flights to Rovaniemi, 10 more than last winter.
  • During peak weekends:
    • Up to 16 flights daily on Saturdays
    • Up to 14 flights daily on Sundays

Rovaniemi is known as the gateway to Santa Claus Village. It offers Arctic adventures and continues to be one of Finnair’s most in-demand winter routes.

More Access to Kittilä and Ivalo for Ski and Snow Enthusiasts

  • Kittilä (gateway to Levi and Ylläs ski resorts):
    • Up to 41 weekly flights, a boost of 7 from last year
    • 8 daily flights on weekends during peak weeks
  • Ivalo (Finnair’s northernmost domestic destination):
    • Up to 33 weekly flights
    • Extra services on Saturdays and Sundays

These extra frequencies serve local travelers. They also serve international travelers heading to the snow-covered landscapes of northern Finland for skiing, snowmobiling, and aurora hunting.

Kuusamo Also Gets a Boost

Finnair is also increasing service to Kuusamo, another popular winter destination in Northern Ostrobothnia:

  • Two new Saturday flights
  • One added Sunday flight

Kuusamo offers easy access to Ruka Ski Resort, one of Finland’s premier alpine destinations.

Supporting Lapland Tourism and Regional Connectivity

This move strengthens Finnair’s role in supporting Finland’s winter tourism economy. It connects Helsinki Airport to northern regions with seamless transit options. These options are available for both long-haul and short-haul travelers.

You can chase the northern lights, visit Santa Claus or hit the slopes. Finnair’s expanded winter schedule ensures more flexibility, greater convenience, and unmatched access to the Arctic north.
