The delightful mystery of the SAS A350 which I spotted after landing at Billund Airport this past Friday has been solved; though sadly it doesn’t involve the launch of convenient long-haul travel from LEGO’s headquarters.

As the fine folks at check-in.dk report (in Danish, paywall) SAS is conducting training flights to qualify 60 pilots to fly the aircraft. They are making short practice flights between Copenhagen Airport and Billund. Up to three pilots are trained on each session, conducted under the expert guidance of Bo Brøndum, assistant chief instructor for A330/A340/A350 aircraft.

So now you know! Billund has great spots for aircraft spotting both outdoors undercover and indoors with food and drink. Head out and maybe you too can snap a (far better) shot of the SAS A350 Ingegerd Viking.
