    A Boost in Seat Capacity

The introduction of this new route, operated by the Boeing 737-800NG, means an addition of 128,000 seats annually. With launch fares starting from a competitive $149 one way, these flights promise to be an enticing option for both leisure and business travelers.

Rex Deputy Chairman, the Hon. John Sharp AM, shared the airline’s vision: “Step by step, our footprint is gradually growing as we continue to spread our wings so we can achieve our goal of flying to, and between, all of our capital cities.”

    Meeting Market Demand

This move by Rex Airlines is not just about expanding horizons but also about meeting growing demand. Gert-Jan de Graaff, Chief Executive Officer at Brisbane Airport Corporation, remarked on the current market status.

“Step by step, our footprint is gradually growing as we continue to spread our wings so we can achieve our goal of flying to, and between, all of our capital cities. The Brisbane to Adelaide market had been lacking in terms of capacity, currently operating at 88% of pre-COVID levels. However, with Rex’s latest announcement, we are poised to see that figure rise to a nearly full 99% capacity.”

Reflecting on the past, de Graaff added, “In 2019 alone, 875,000 people flew between [Brisbane and Adelaide]. We look forward to growing that number for the benefit of the people of Queensland and South Australia.”

    Beneficial for Connectivity

Rex Airlines has an expansive network connecting regional and rural Queensland and South Australia. The airline is bolstering connectivity for thousands by introducing this service, making interstate travel more seamless.

Brisbane Airport: Australia’s Hub for Domestic Destinations

Brisbane Airport stands out with the largest domestic destinations network in Australia. Travelers can choose 52 towns and cities, with 30 of those situated within Queensland.

Moreover, with eyes set on the future, Brisbane Airport has committed to a monumental $5+ billion investment program. This investment aims to meet the burgeoning demand, especially with the upcoming 2032 Brisbane Olympic and Paralympic Games.

Rex Airlines’ expansion to connect Brisbane Airport and Adelaide daily is not just a promising venture for the airline itself but holds promise for air travel in Australia. These new flights enhance connectivity, meet market demands, and give travelers more options.
