City Airlines, the latest airline in the Lufthansa Group, will start flight operations in Summer 2024.
Lufthansa Group is launching its City Airlines in the summer of 2024 and hiring cabin and flight crew. This new airline, established last year and granted an Air Operator Certificate (AOC) by the German Federal Aviation Authority in June, will operate flights from the Munich and Frankfurt hubs. Additionally, it will provide feeder flights for Lufthansa long-haul passengers.

- Recruitment for cockpit and cabin crews as of November 2023
- Expansion of short-haul network to/from Munich and Frankfurt with City Airlines strengthens hubs as well as Lufthansa’s long-haul segment
- Uniform Lufthansa customer experience on board City Airlines
- Start of flight operations with Airbus A319 aircraft
- Lufthansa Group is currently evaluating the use of other aircraft of comparable size.
Improving the competitive advantage of the short-haul network is crucial for the success of Lufthansa Group and its growth plans in the German market.
Hiring for City Airlines
Recruitment for operational staff, including pilots and cabin crew members, will commence in November 2023 in preparation for the airline’s launch. To ensure long-term success, City Airlines is exploring the possibility of recruiting English-speaking pilots for cockpit positions. The airline will give preference to applicants with relevant experience. Additionally, employees within the Lufthansa Group interested in transferring to City Airlines can do so under favorable conditions. The focus will be on hiring Lufthansa CityLine staff.
“With City Airlines, we want to create prospects for the coming decades and secure sustainable jobs in Germany. This is the only way for us to grow and sustainably strengthen the hubs in Munich and Frankfurt,” says Jens Fehlinger, Managing Director of City Airlines.
The airline has already begun talks with social partners to agree on competitive and secure job conditions.
City Airlines will soon provide a Lufthansa customer experience on their Airbus A319 aircraft. Additionally, Lufthansa Group is considering the use of Airbus A220 or Embraer aircraft for City Airlines operations.
