JetBlue Powers Sustainable Travel with Innovative Corporate Partnership
JetBlue, the budget-conscious premium airline, unveils an ingenious Carbon Offset initiative. The scheme is designed to aid corporate customers in bolstering the eco-friendliness of their business travel.
JetBlue’s new “Sustainable Travel Partners” program seeks to provide greener corporate travel options. Initial clients of the program include sustainability-driven firms like Biogen, Deloitte LLP, ICF, and Salesforce. The program anticipates a collective reduction of 2,730 Metric Tons of CO2 emissions from these pioneering customers.
JetBlue caters to corporate travelers with a range of services aimed at lowering their business travel emissions and reaching their corporate sustainability goals. These include personalized data and consultation to enhance travel sustainability. The Sustainable Travel Partners program equips corporate partners with essential resources.
JetBlue facilitates business travel emissions reduction through various measures. The first is the provision of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) certificates generated by the airline itself, which allow travelers to contribute to the decrease in carbon emissions linked with their flights.
In addition, JetBlue extends complimentary carbon offsetting for all its domestic flights. This ensures the carbon emissions generated during these flights are counterbalanced through numerous carbon reduction initiatives.
JetBlue also provides personalized travel data and evaluation for precise emissions reporting. These measures are employed by JetBlue to mitigate the environmental footprint of business travel.
The airline also offers consultation and tools to guide individuals towards sustainable travel choices. Moreover, JetBlue provides Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) Certificates.
What is SAF (Sustainable Aviation Fuel)?
SAF, also known as synthetic jet fuel, is a renewable fuel derived from natural resources. It can be produced rapidly without impacting food supplies. SAF significantly reduces CO2 emissions by up to 80% over its lifecycle compared to standard Jet-A fuel from petroleum. SAF also curbs air pollution by reducing tiny particles and sulfur oxides. With ASTM certification for blending with Jet-A fuel, SAF can be used in current engines and infrastructure without major modifications.
Since July 2020, JetBlue has been leveraging SAF as a fuel source. The airline procures SAF from Neste at San Francisco International Airport (SFO) and World Energy and World Fuel Services at Los Angeles International Airport (LAX) since July 2021.
JetBlue has announced a pact with SG Preston to hasten its transition to Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF). This alliance is set to deliver 67 million gallons of blended SAF annually to the Northeast region over the next ten years, positioning JetBlue as a frontrunner in SAF uptake. The airline is on track to surpass its goal of converting 10% of its fuel usage to SAF well before 2030. JetBlue now offers SAF certificates for purchase, enabling business travelers to directly impact emissions reduction.
The acquisition of SAF certificates assists in offsetting “Scope 3” emissions related to business travel. Corporate clients can shrink their carbon footprint and support the expansion of the SAF market through certificate purchases. This, in turn, enables JetBlue to boost its SAF supply, aiding the aviation industry’s objective of achieving net-zero emissions.
Free Domestic Carbon Offsetting for Corporate Air Travelers
JetBlue pioneered CO2 emissions offsetting for all domestic flights among US airlines in July 2020. The airline buys carbon offsets from Carbonfund.org, EcoAct, and South Pole, which are audited, validated, and retired on JetBlue’s behalf. Sustainable Travel Partners can access enhanced reporting on complimentary carbon offsets and explore additional offsetting opportunities through JetBlue’s expertise and business partners.
Emissions Travel Data and Analysis
The Sustainable Travel Partners program offers personalized and granular emissions reporting based on actual flying and JetBlue’s average fuel burn on those routes. JetBlue is working towards integrating travel emissions data into Salesforce’s Net Zero Cloud to provide partners with more accurate emissions reporting.
JetBlue’s Sustainable Tools and Consultation
JetBlue’s Sustainability and Corporate Sales representatives have curated a guidance program to assist business clients in minimizing emissions related to business travel. They provide personalized conversations to strategize, set emissions reduction targets, and recommend sustainable travel actions.
Decarbonization Strategy of JetBlue
JetBlue emphasizes reducing its emissions and climate change impact. The airline’s decarbonization strategy involves significant investments in SAF and a commitment to procure 67 million gallons of SAF annually for the next decade. JetBlue is also enhancing aircraft efficiency, optimizing fuel usage, adopting electric ground operations, and cultivating technology partnerships.
“As our business customers return to the skies, they increasingly have been asking for our support in meeting their net zero and sustainable travel goals,” said Sara Bogdan, director of sustainability and environmental social governance at JetBlue. “JetBlue has extensive expertise in decarbonizing air travel thanks to our early and leading commitments and supply agreements. We’re now extending these options to our corporate customers so that, for the first time, they can play a direct role in enhancing the sustainability of their air travel when flying with JetBlue. We’re proud to introduce the Sustainable Travel Partners program to help our business customers set and achieve sustainable travel targets.”
JetBlue Funds SAF with New ‘Sustainable Travel Partners’ Program

What JetBlue’s Sustainable Travel Partners Have to Say
“Climate action is essential for human and planetary wellbeing,” says Alphonse Galdes, Ph.D., Head of Pharmaceutical Operations and Technology at Biogen. “Yet, if we hope to make a substantive impact in this area, we all must come together – across industries – to re-examine the way we work, the way we live and the way we consume energy. By becoming an inaugural member of JetBlue’s Sustainable Travel Partner Program, we at Biogen are proud to reduce our dependency on fossil fuels and their associated impacts, as well as utilize more accurate data to inform travel decisions in the future.”
“Deloitte is committed to driving responsible climate choices,” said Scott Corwin, Managing Director and US Leader for Sustainability and Climate Change at Deloitte LLP. “Together with JetBlue, we are another step closer to reducing our travel emissions and achieving a more sustainable future.”
“As the first professional services firm in the world to reach carbon neutral status in 2006, sustainability is part of our company’s DNA,” said ICF President, Chair, and CEO John Wasson. “As we continue to pursue our own ambitious carbon reduction targets, we’re thrilled to partner with JetBlue to help other companies achieve their sustainability targets, too.”
“We are proud to join JetBlue’s Sustainable Travel Partners program to help accelerate the aviation industry’s journey to net zero,” said Patrick Flynn, VP and Global Head of Sustainability at Salesforce. “The urgency of this climate emergency means we need all-of-the-above strategies. For us, that includes helping incentivize emerging clean technologies like Sustainable Aviation Fuels and working with partners like the Sustainable Aviation Buyers Alliance to lower barriers to scale and cost reduction.”
What is JetBlue’s Decarbonization Strategy?
JetBlue is prioritizing the reduction of its emissions and its impact on climate change. In 2020, it became the first US airline to voluntarily offset CO2 emissions on all domestic flights, offsetting over 6 million metric tons of CO2.
