Queensland is witnessing an act of generosity that promises to feed countless hungry families. Thanks to Alliance Airlines, Foodbank Queensland has a newly outfitted truck to increase food rescue operations and expedite distribution to various frontline charities.
Why This Donation Matters
This isn’t just any truck. It’s the fifth addition to Foodbank Queensland’s fleet and promises to amplify their food collection capacity for frontline charities by a remarkable 20%. The urgency of the need can’t be understated. This refrigerated truck will work up to seven hours daily, journeying about 800 kilometers every week. This transport vehicle is a game-changer with its ability to haul 28 pallets of donated food each trip.
CEO of Foodbank Queensland, Jess Watkinson, expressed the stark reality of food distribution in Queensland. “Every hour, Foodbank Queensland provides 3,000 meals to people in need in Queensland. This supports 150,000 Queenslanders each week. But sadly, the demand still outweighs supply,” said Watkinson. “We have a big state and a lot of agriculture, but sometimes the crops just don’t get to market. With this truck, we will have the capacity to rescue a lot of that produce and put it in the hands of the frontline charities that can distribute it, which makes a huge difference.”
Strengthening Bonds with Local Partners
Brisbane Airport Corporation also supports Foodbank.
Foodbank Queensland collaborates closely with Queensland farmers and numerous food and grocery companies. The trucks save fresh produce and rescue quality packaged and tinned foods, ensuring they reach the most vulnerable.
Scott McMillan, Managing Director of Alliance Airlines, said the airline travels to remote areas of Australia and sees firsthand the need for assistance by families in regional and remote areas and capital cities.
