Embraer’s Phenom 300E and Praetor 600 complete 100% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) flight tests.
Embraer has successfully tested their Phenom 300E and Praetor 600 aircraft using 100% sustainable aviation fuel (SAF). The tests took place at Embraer’s Melbourne facility and involved running one of the engines solely on SAF provided by World Fuel. This collaborative effort included engine partners Honeywell Aerospace, Parker, Pratt & Whitney Canada, and Safran.

- Completing the tests is a significant step towards achieving the aviation industry’s net-zero emissions goal by 2050 and Embraer’s net-zero target by 2040.
- Tests provided significant knowledge on the systems’ performance when utilizing fuel that has a composition of 100% SAF on Pratt & Whitney and Honeywell engines.
Making Private Jets More Sustainable

Embraer’s focus on sustainability is evident in their commitment to incorporating SAF into their aircraft. These tests were a significant milestone as they provided valuable insights into the performance of systems when using SAF blends of up to 100%. SAF is a renewable energy source that can reduce greenhouse gas emissions by up to 80% compared to traditional jet fuel. Embracing SAF supports Embraer’s goal of achieving carbon-neutral operations by 2040 and contributes to the industry-wide target of achieving net-zero emissions by 2050.
“We are proud to have successfully flown the Phenom 300E and Praetor 600 on 100% neat SAF, an important step as our operators are increasingly interested in and adopting this fuel,” said Michael Amalfitano, Embraer Executive Jets President and CEO. “This achievement is an important milestone in our journey towards net-zero emissions by 2050 and demonstrates our commitment to sustainability, our customers and our stakeholders.”
Why Neat SAF Matters

Embraer aircraft are currently approved to use a mixture of Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF) blended with conventional Jet Fuel, with a maximum blend of 50%. This is in accordance with the specifications set by ASTM International. However, there are ongoing discussions regarding the possibility of future specifications that would allow for fuels containing up to 100% SAF. Such a development would maximize the potential for reducing emissions by utilizing sustainable, non-fossil-based sources.
Embraer is deeply committed to sustainability and considers it a fundamental part of its business strategy. As part of this commitment, the company continuously explores innovative ways to minimize its environmental impact. The recent flights of the Phenom 300 and Praetor 600 using 100% neat SAF mark significant milestones in these efforts. Embraer is actively working towards a more sustainable future for the aviation industry, researching and developing low- and zero-emission alternative propulsion systems such as electrification, hybrid-electric, and hydrogen, and seeking out other opportunities to enhance sustainability in the industry.
