May’s half-term holiday confidently sets the stage for the main summer season at East Midlands Airport (EMA). With packed schedules already in place, the airport anticipates a robust performance throughout this summer.

East Midlands Airport is preparing for a busy start to the holiday. On Friday, May 24, the peak travel day, 9,600 passengers will jet off, and on the same day, another 9,600 passengers will return from their adventures.

During the half-term break, which ends on Sunday, June 2, EMA will handle an impressive 182,200 travelers. The airport plans to manage over 900 flights arriving and departing to effectively meet everyone’s travel needs.

EMA is a gateway to the world’s most beloved beach destinations, including Palma, Lanzarote, Alicante, Faro, Malaga, Corfu, Ibiza, Gran Canaria, and Tenerife. It also offers flights to bustling urban centers like Rome, Paris, Barcelona, and this year’s new destination, Naples, offered by TUI.

Leading airlines such as Ryanair,, and TUI spearhead air travel from EMA, connecting passengers to top destinations across Europe and North Africa. Aer Lingus Regional, Eastern Airways, Aurigny, and Blue Islands provide various routes for regional travel, ensuring a smooth travel experience to the Channel Islands and Ireland.

Customer and Planning Director at EMA Mike Grimes said: “The spring half-term break is a really popular time to get away, with places not as busy as during the peak summer season and pleasant temperatures in many of the destinations we serve at this time of year.

“If you haven’t already booked for the half-term, there’s still time for some last-minute deals – perhaps a quick hop for a short city break or somewhere closer to home like Jersey, Dublin or Belfast? If not, summer’s just round the corner and we have plenty of popular places across Europe and beyond to choose from. And there’s some changes we’ve completed at the airport to help get your holiday off to a great start.”

Several significant upgrades mark the initial stage of a robust £120m investment program, including the sleek redesign of the Castle Rock Bar & Kitchen and the addition of a JD Sports store. Enhancements also encompass new, comfortable customer seating, state-of-the-art toilets, an upgraded fleet of trolleys, and superior customer Wi-Fi across the terminal.
