Singapore Airlines Expands Schedule to Meet Growing Demand

Singapore Airlines (SIA) is set to expand services to various destinations in its network during the Northern Summer 2024 operating season, from 31st March 2024 to 26th October 2024. The airline cites the strong demand for air travel to its principal markets as motivation for this expansion.

The airline’s expansion plans include restoring the prestigious Airbus A380 services on the Singapore to Frankfurt route and deploying the spacious widebody Airbus A350-900 medium-haul aircraft on routes to Cairns and Male. Furthermore, SIA is reinstating direct services between Singapore and Barcelona, with service on the airline’s comfortable Airbus A350-900 long-haul aircraft.

Singapore Airlines will elevate its flight frequencies to match or surpass the pre-pandemic levels for several destinations. These destinations span across the globe, including Ahmedabad in India, Beijing and Shanghai in China, Copenhagen in Denmark, Da Nang in Vietnam, Darwin, Melbourne, and Perth in Australia, Dubai in the United Arab Emirates, Tokyo-Haneda in Japan, and Seattle and Houston in the United States of America.

In a statement regarding this development, Ms. JoAnn Tan, Senior Vice President of Marketing Planning at Singapore Airlines, expressed her optimism. She stated, “With the release of SIA’s Northern Summer schedules, our customers make their travel plans for 2024. Our customers will enjoy greater choice and flexibility when they travel with us as SIA adjusts and expands our network in response to demand patterns.”

SINGAPORE AIRLINES’ NETWORK CHANGES

Details of Singapore Airlines’ adjustments to its flight schedules are as follows. All times stated are local. All flight services are subject to regulatory approvals, and the aircraft deployment is subject to operational requirements. Tickets will be available for sale progressively through SIA’s various distribution channels.

AUSTRALIA

CAIRNS

Starting 31 March 2024, flights SQ203 and SQ204 between Singapore and Cairns will run four times weekly instead of five. The aircraft will upgrade from Boeing 737-8 to the larger A350-900. This change marks the first widebody aircraft used on this route in over 20 years.

DARWIN

SIA will increase flights between Singapore and Darwin (SQ251 and SQ252) to daily from 31 March 2024, returning to pre-pandemic levels.

MELBOURNE

Starting 26 May 2024, SIA will increase its daily flights between Singapore and Melbourne from four to five, returning to pre-pandemic service levels. The airline will serve these flights (SQ247 and SQ248) with the A350-900 aircraft.

PERTH

From 24th November 2023, SIA will increase Singapore-Perth services to four times weekly (SQ213 and SQ226). This will upgrade to daily flights from 31st March 2024, using the A350-900 medium-haul aircraft. Hence, Singapore-Perth services will return to the pre-pandemic frequency of four times daily.

BANGLADESH

SIA will add two more weekly services (SQ448 and SQ449) from Singapore to Dhaka starting 31 March 2024, increasing the frequency from seven to nine times weekly.

CHINA

BEIJING

Starting 1 May 2024, SIA will introduce a third daily service (SQ800 and SQ805) between Singapore and Beijing using the Airbus A350-900 medium-haul aircraft, restoring the pre-pandemic frequency of three daily flights.

HONG KONG SAR

SIA is introducing a fifth daily service (SQ896 and SQ897) between Singapore and Hong Kong SAR starting 29 October 2023. From 1 August 2024, a sixth daily service (SQ882 and SQ883) will be launched. These additions will restore frequencies to pre-pandemic levels. The A350-900 long-haul aircraft will be used for these services.

SHANGHAI

Starting 1 October 2023, SIA will increase daily Singapore-Shanghai services to four (SQ828 and SQ831). A fifth service (SQ832 and SQ835) will launch on 31 March 2024, restoring pre-pandemic frequency.

DENMARK

From 1 July 2024, SIA’s Singapore-Copenhagen services (SQ352 and SQ351) will return to daily flights with the A350-900 aircraft. This is up from the current five times weekly, restoring pre-pandemic service.

GERMANY

SIA’s Airbus A380 will replace the A350-900 on the Frankfurt route (SQ326 and SQ325) from 31 March 2024. This marks the A380’s return to Continental Europe.

INDIA

From 2 September 2024, SIA’s Singapore-Ahmedabad services (SQ504 and SQ505) will return from five times weekly to pre-pandemic daily frequency. The airline will operate these flights on the A350-900 medium-haul aircraft.

JAPAN

Starting 1 October 2023, SIA will increase its daily services between Singapore and Tokyo-Haneda from two to three (SQ632 and SQ633). On 1 September 2024, a fourth service (SQ630 and SQ639) will be added. Both services will be operated by the A350-900 medium-haul aircraft, restoring the pre-pandemic frequency.

MALAYSIA

SIA will boost its weekly flights between Singapore and Kuala Lumpur to 66 from 47 in the Northern Summer 2024 season. A daily flight service (SQ128 and SQ127) will start on 31 March 2024. A five-times weekly service (SQ102 and SQ101) will launch on 3 June 2024. An extra daily flight service (SQ112 and SQ111) will start from 1 August 2024. All new flights will use the Boeing 737-8 aircraft.

THE MALDIVES

From 31 March 2024, SIA will upgrade the Singapore-Male service (SQ432 and SQ431) to the A350-900 medium-haul aircraft from the Boeing 737-8 to accommodate increased demand to this vacation spot.

MANCHESTER AND HOUSTON

From 31 March 2024, SIA will increase the Singapore-Manchester-Houston route (SQ52 and SQ51) from three to five times weekly. The A350-900 aircraft is used for this route.

MILAN AND BARCELONA

Starting 2 June 2024, SIA will restart direct flights from Singapore to Barcelona twice a week (SQ388 and SQ387), and increase Singapore to Milan flights from twice to four times a week (SQ356 and SQ355). The Singapore-Milan-Barcelona route (SQ378 and SQ377) will reduce from five to three times a week.

MYANMAR

Starting 2 August 2024, SIA will increase Singapore-Yangon flights (SQ764 and SQ763) from seven to 10 per week using the Boeing 737-8.

THE UNITED ARAB EMIRATES

Starting 31 March 2024, SIA will increase its Singapore-Dubai service (SQ496 and SQ497) up from seven to 11 times per week. The flights will operate on the A350-900 medium-haul aircraft.

THE UNITED STATES OF AMERICA

From 28 May 2024, SIA will add an extra weekly flight between Singapore and Seattle. The flights SQ28 and SQ27 will run every Tuesday, Thursday, Saturday, and Sunday using the A350-900 aircraft. This change will restore the pre-pandemic frequency of four times weekly.

VIETNAM

Starting 29 October 2023, SIA will upgrade the frequency of flights SQ174 and SQ173 between Singapore and Da Nang to daily from thrice weekly. From 1 July 2024, flights SQ172 and SQ171 will also become daily from four times weekly. This restores the pre-pandemic frequency of 14 times a week between the two cities. The Boeing 737-8 aircraft will be used for this route.
