During the upcoming National Preparedness Month, United Airlines joins Sesame Workshop, the admirable force behind Sesame Street, on a special project. Their collective goal? Bringing early childhood development opportunities to families affected by crises globally.
The United Airlines Sesame Workshop Partnership
Throughout September, United Airlines will showcase the Welcome Sesame initiative on its industry-acclaimed Miles on a Mission platform.
Donations via this platform will empower Sesame Workshop to travel worldwide, spreading early learning and nurturing care. The primary beneficiaries will be children and caregivers affected by conflict and crisis, including those in Ukraine, the Middle East, Latin America, East Africa, and more.
To amplify the impact, United commits to matching the first million miles raised for this initiative by year’s end.
Caring for Children in Crisis
“We’re rallying our most loyal customers to join us in supporting the incredible work that only Sesame Workshop can do – for children around the world who need it the most,” said Josh Earnest, SVP and Chief Communications Officer. “In times of crisis, our United team routinely mobilizes our jets to help transport relief supplies where they are needed and get people out of harm’s way. Extending our partnership with Sesame Workshop allows Mileage Plus members to donate miles and maximize the impact of these critical relief efforts because we know Good Leads the Way for so many of our most loyal customers, too.”

With United’s revamped Miles on a Mission program, it’s simpler for nonprofit charities to benefit. The updated scheme also offers MileagePlus Members greater chances to put their miles to good use.
A Genuine Need, A Positive Impact
Highlighting the urgency of this initiative, United Airlines notes that more than 400 million children live in conflict zones, with over 43 million children forcibly displaced. The Welcome Sesame initiative aims to reach these children, offering a glimmer of hope in trying times.
Ongoing Collaboration Between United and Sesame Workshop
United’s bond with Sesame Workshop isn’t new. Earlier this year, they introduced Oscar the Grouch as the Chief Trash Officer, part of a drive to promote sustainable aviation fuel awareness. And there’s more to come, including children’s amenity kits featuring beloved characters like Oscar and Elmo.
