British Airways First Flight from London Gatwick Arrives in Accra

Yesterday, British Airways made history by operating its inaugural flight from London Gatwick to Accra. The plane safely landed at Kotoka International Airport (ACC) at 6:26 PM local time.

British Airways has launched its new service connecting Accra, the capital of Ghana, to London Gatwick. The inaugural flight received a warm West African welcome, with dancers, drummers, and VIPs greeting passengers as they arrived. The crew members wore a stylish uniform designed by British-Ghanaian master tailor Ozwald Boateng OBE.

Travelers now have more options for flying between Accra and London, with British Airways offering three flights a week. Departing at 21:20 on Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Sundays, the flights arrive at Gatwick at 04:00. Starting April next year, the airline will add a fourth weekly flight to the schedule.

Neil Chernoff, British Airways’ Director of Network and Alliances, said: “With 11 direct flights across two London gateways, we’re pleased to offer our Ghanaian customers a greater choice of products and prices. Overall, we’re doubling the number of seats between Accra and London, with 55 percent more capacity next summer versus 2019. We are always looking at routes and regions where there is potential for growth, and Accra is one of those routes, and Africa is one of those regions.”

Daily Flights on British Airways A350

British Airways operates daily flights from London Heathrow to Accra, using its newest and fuel-efficient A350 fleet. These flights have the latest generation business class seat, Club Suite. This new route not only benefits passengers but also increases cargo capacity between the two cities, providing more opportunities for Ghanaian exporters to transport perishables and other goods through IAG Cargo, the cargo division of the International Airlines Group.

To celebrate the increased connectivity between Africa and London, British Airways has curated an exclusive Afrobeats playlist for travelers onboard starting from November 1. The renowned DJ Cuppy has handpicked her top tracks, ensuring customers enjoy feel-good vibes during their flight.

As a global full-service airline, British Airways operates flights to over 65 countries. With a vast flight network, both domestically and internationally, passengers have access to convenient routes and schedules. Through its BA Better World program, British Airways aims to achieve net zero carbon emissions by 2050.
