SAS has launched a new flight route from Copenhagen, Denmark, to Bangkok, Thailand, in response to increasing leisure travel demand. The first flight took off on October 30, 2023, marking almost 75 years since SAS’ initial Copenhagen to Bangkok flight.

This new route will be available during the winter season, offering convenient overnight flights for seamless connections to and from Scandinavia and other European destinations through CPH airport. In addition, SAS will continue to operate three weekly flights to Tokyo Haneda (HND) and Shanghai (PVG) as part of their Winter 2023/2024 program.
What it Was Like Flying SAS To Bangkok in 1949
Back in 1949, SAS introduced the first flight between Copenhagen and Bangkok, which opened up a new air route connecting Scandinavia and Thailand. The journey then took around 36 hours, with stops in Zürich, Rome, Damascus, Karachi, and Calcutta. After a brief hiatus, SAS has reinstated the route, and the current flight duration is approximately 10 hours and 30 minutes, without any stopovers.

“Thailand and the Scandinavian countries have a long history of friendship and cooperation and returning with a direct route is a true pleasure. The Bangkok route will offer a perfect entry point for wider Thailand and Asia and be a great option for both business and leisure travelers. Thailand is a favorite destination among many passengers during the winter season, and a lot of Scandinavians see Thailand as their home away from home,” says SAS Chief Commercial Officer, Paul Verhagen.
