Europe’s Wizz Air has taken another stride in its commitment to sustainability. With its newest WIZZ Sustainability Ambassador program, the low-cost airline is more determined to promote eco-friendly habits and broaden the horizons of sustainable practices.

What is the WIZZ Sustainability Ambassador Programme?
Wizz Air has committed to sustainable operations. The latest in its green initiatives, the WIZZ Sustainability Ambassador program, aims to promote sustainability awareness across its vast network.
From the extensive pool of over 7,000 Wizz Air’s workforce, the airline picked 24 Sustainability Ambassadors. These ambassadors hail from a diverse range of 22 bases and two offices, spanning countries from Albania and Hungary to the UAE and the UK.
From September 2023 to May 2024, these ambassadors will champion various sustainability projects across Wizz Air’s hubs and offices. Their initiatives range from recycling drives to charity endeavors aimed at inculcating eco-friendly habits. They’ll also take on the mantle of educating their colleagues about sustainability insights.
Following this phase, Wizz Air’s Corporate & ESG Officer, Yvonne Moynihan, alongside the sustainability team, will recognize the most significant project spearheaded by these Ambassadors.
Commenting on this development, Yvonne Moynihan said:
“We are thrilled to be able to provide our colleagues with an opportunity to immerse themselves in sustainability projects that make a difference. The Sustainability Ambassadors will play vital role in promoting awareness and fostering positive change regarding environmental and social sustainability issues across Wizz Air’s network. Our aircraft are already operating with the lowest carbon intensity in the industry, and we believe that by participating in local initiatives at our bases and offices will allow WIZZ team to go even further in reducing our environmental footprint and strengthening sustainability as one of the five WIZZ values, embedded in everything we do.”
Sustainability Achievements of Wizz Air
In the fiscal year 2023, Wizz Air reported a remarkable carbon emission intensity of just 53.8 grams per passenger/km. This figure reflects an 11% decrease compared to their performance in the previous fiscal year. Wizz Air’s approach to sustainability is comprehensively rooted in four pillars – environment, people, governance, and economy. The airline’s has multiple programs aimed at reducing its environmental footprint. These include championing employee growth, making valuable socio-economic contributions to its operational regions, and fortifying its corporate governance.
Wizz Air was recognized as the most environmentally sustainable global airline at the CAPA – Centre for Aviation Awards for Excellence 2022.
Wizz air does squeeze the lemon in other places … the Hungarian labour law helping quite a bit. it’s not always gold when it shines. but they do rock a modern fleet and I am sure for now they beat the competition on carbon emissions per pax/km! the customer service improved a lot so yes WizzAir def is working on their problem areas in general
