Assaia, the pioneer in AI-enhanced turnaround management, announced Tim Toerber as its new Vice President of Business Development for the Americas. This strategic addition is pivotal as the aviation industry gears up to tackle post-COVID challenges.

Enhancing Efficiency for Rapid Aircraft Turns
The CEO of Assaia, Max Diez, explained the new appointment: “Tim brings a wealth of operational and strategic expertise to Assaia at an important time when our market share is growing significantly. It is an important time for the industry, with passenger numbers set to exceed pre-COVID levels very soon, putting increasing pressure on resources and infrastructure. Airlines, airports, and ground handlers must find all the efficiency gains they can, and the turnaround is an obvious target.”
Toerber’s association with Assaia isn’t new. Between 2019 and 2021, he was pivotal in implementing Assaia’s solution at Seattle-Tacoma International Airport (SEA). Most recently, Toerber was Senior Program Manager for Airport Affairs and Operations Strategy at Amazon Air. At Assaia, Toerber will focus on expanding partnerships with airports and airlines in the Americas.
Toerber said of his new role at Assaia, “When it comes to meeting surging demand, limited airport capacity, and workforce staffing challenges, Assaia’s AI-enabled computer vision solutions offer unprecedented insight. I am excited to join the incredibly talented team at Assaia and extend the deployment of these powerful tools to more users in the aviation industry. I am enthusiastic about collaborating with industry colleagues to address complex safety challenges on the ramp. We have the opportunity to set new benchmarks for reliable average turn times. This will unlock new aircraft utilization levels for airlines and gate utilization for airports.”
Two Decades of Aviation Industry Experience
A seasoned expert with over two decades in the aviation sector, Toerber’s commitment is deeply rooted. He studied aeronautics at the University of North Dakota. Following his service in the US Army, Toerber further contributed to Seattle-Tacoma International Airport. His efforts helped the airport ascend from the 16th to the 8th busiest airport in the US. The innovative strategies in airport resource optimization Toerber implemented, including Assaia’s Apron AI, supported SEA-TAC’s growth.
In 2022, Amazon Air, the global leader in air cargo operations, sought Toerber’s expertise. Here, he built partnerships across North American airports and played a cardinal role in strategizing operational initiatives.
Toerber is also an active contributor to his community. He serves on the Tacoma Narrows Airport Advisory Commission and holds significant positions within the Rotary Club.
“Assaia is looking forward to the valuable contributions Tim will bring to the company as Vice President of Business Development – Americas. Together, we are poised to shape the future of aircraft turnaround management and usher in a new era of efficiency and innovation within the aviation industry,” Max Diez concluded.
