Copenhagen Airport Sees More Travelers in February

Copenhagen Airport continues to enjoy strong growth with a busy February. Over 1.8 million people came through, 13% more than last year. This increase is likely to continue into 2024. With the spring and Easter holidays, even more people will be traveling through the airport.

Copenhagen Airport Growth: Leap Year Boosts Numbers

Because 2024 is a leap year, February had an extra day. This helped increase the number of passengers by 206,913, or 13%. But even without that extra day, there would still be a 9% rise or 141,408 more passengers.

The airport was especially active during the winter holiday weeks. In total, 1,849,923 passengers visited in the 29 days of February 2024, a leap year. That’s 13% more than the year before.

“The winter months are generally a quieter period, but we are very pleased with the increase in passenger numbers. It shows that the travel boom is continuing. A lot of people take the opportunity to get away during the winter break, either to sunny beaches or to snowy mountain pistes,” says Peter Krogsgaard, Chief Commercial Officer of Copenhagen Airports A/S.

About 1.1 million passengers used the airport during the winter break. Sunday, February 25, was the busiest day, with 79,000 passengers.

London remains the top destination, with 124 flights a week. Passengers flying from Copenhagen to Heathrow, Stanstead, and Gatwick airports increased by 6%.

Easter Will Be Busy

The airport is getting ready for Easter. Around 1.5 million passengers are expected to fly then, an 8% increase from last year.

Mr. Krogsgaard notes that spring and the Easter holidays are popular for trips. “Springtime means holiday time for many of our travelers. The many statutory holidays of the season make this an ideal time for a short trip abroad, and it is clear that the appetite for travel is alive and well, whether it be to sunny southern climes or a scintillating city. London is the favorite city break destination, while Spanish destinations Malaga, Barcelona, and Gran Canaria are the top sun spots,” he says.

Easter Tips for Copenhagen Airport Travelers

The airport advises everyone to arrive early. Get there two hours before flights to Europe and three hours for longer trips.

If you can, check-in from home. Use self-service options at the airport, too.
