A Unique Martini Mixer by British Aviation and Exploration Specialists

The airline has introduced a unique martini mixer crafted by British aviation and exploration specialists, Bremont, in partnership with the British design and engineering firm CALLUM. This precision-engineered mixer, made from machined stainless steel, guarantees the perfect martini every time. Additionally, a bespoke moving bar equipped with integrated scales ensures that the quantity of each martini ingredient is precisely measured.
The Science Behind Mixing a Turbine Martini at British Airways’ Concorde Room

Featuring a turbine-inspired design, the martini mixer incorporates a motorized mixing paddle. It is engineered to stir the cocktail at the optimal speed of 120–160 revolutions per minute. This meticulous process highlights the citrus and floral notes, producing a smoother martini blend. The outcome, the Turbine Martini, perfectly balances aeration, dilution, and cooling.
The Turbine Martini: A Contemporary Reinterpretation of the Classic Cocktail

The Turbine Martini, a contemporary reinterpretation of the classic cocktail, has been crafted by the airline’s award-winning partner mixologist, Mr Lyan (Ryan Chetiyawardana). It elegantly blends classic ingredients such as vermouth, custom bitters, and a distinctive garnish with Aviation American Gin, the airline’s latest gin partner. As connoisseurs watch, the attentive staff of the airline’s Concorde Room mix and serve the Turbine Martini at their seats.
British Airways’ Chief Customer Officer, Calum Laming said: “We are really excited to work with the very best experts in the world of design, engineering, and mixology, to create a bespoke experience and offer customers what we believe to be the best martini in the world! This is one of many steps we are taking to invest in our lounges both in the UK and further afield, with some more exciting news coming later this year.”
How Mr Lyan Crafted the Perfect Martini for the British Airways Concorde Room
Mr Lyan, the airline’s partner mixologist, said: “Over the past couple of years, I have worked closely with British Airways to create a variety of unique drinks that celebrate the motion of flight, and we have taken this one step further to develop a modern version of the ultimate classic cocktail, The Martini. Using expertise from every partner, we’ve balanced the perfect combination of ingredients, aeration and temperature to highlight Aviation American Gin’s unique profile. Through our precision-engineered mixer, we created the Turbine Martini to celebrate the bespoke nature and wonder of the classic drink, with a brand-new contemporary twist.”
British Airways Continues to Invest in Heathrow Lounges
As part of an ongoing effort to elevate the travel experience for its guests, British Airways is investing in substantial enhancements to its lounges at London Heathrow and beyond. The airline’s latest innovation is unveiling the Whispering Angel bar at its London Heathrow Terminal 5B lounge. This lounge is part of a larger refurbishment project, which will wrap up later this year. It promises a fresh, contemporary aesthetic for the space.
The iconic Concorde Room at London Heathrow is also receiving a facelift. British Airways is revamping the cabana space with new day beds and dedicated workspaces. This includes fresh furniture updates. The upgrade extends beyond the Concorde Room. The Arrivals lounge at London Heathrow Terminal 5 and the lounges at London Heathrow Terminal 3 will also be updated.
Improvements go beyond London. The airline is making strides in enhancing the guest experience internationally, with updates to its Edinburgh lounge and a brand-new bar and expanded menu at its Seattle lounge.
British Airways Partnership with Don Julio Tequilas Adds to Drinks Menu at the Concorde Room
In a first for the industry, British Airways is also bringing premium tequila to the skies. The airline has introduced the full range of Don Julio Tequilas into its UK lounges. British Airways will be the first to offer 1942 Añejo onboard in First class and the Concorde Room. Starting in September, customers can enjoy a superior tequila experience on the ground and at 35,000 feet.
Barton and Lawford Cocktail Menu Collaboration
British Airways previously collaborated with Mr Lyan to develop the cocktail menu available in its lounges. Mr Lyan crafted two specials created to celebrate the airline’s heritage and iconic colleagues. The drinks were named Barton and Lawford, after Lynn Barton, the first female British Airways pilot, and Bill Lawford, the first ever British Airways pilot in 1919. The airline also partnered with Bremont ahead of its centenary year by unveiling a limited-edition watch featuring metal from one of its most iconic planes in history, the Concorde.
