Discover Airlines Reveals New “Next-Level” In-Flight Entertainment

Discover Airlines will introduce the AERENA Inseat System by AERQ on an A320, which will start on March 29th and fly during the summer 2024 schedule.

Discover Airlines has upgraded the flying experience with a new interactive system offering 14-inch 4K touchscreens. Passengers can connect their devices to the system for personal content management. Beyond enjoying a freshly updated entertainment content catalog, travelers can check out the menu, book tours, and find other ways to pass the time in flight.

Discover Airlines also announced that starting in 2025, passengers can enjoy free high-speed internet.

Three-Year Trial On Discover Airlines A320

Discover Airlines has outfitted a short-haul A320 plane—tail number D-AIUQ—with the AERENA Inseat System for in-flight entertainment. The system will undergo a three-year test phase beginning in April 2024. To promote the trial, the aircraft’s livery features the slogan “next-level entertainment on board.”

The initiative is part of the Lufthansa Group Innovation Runway, encouraging innovative collaborations. The AERQ AERENA is the product of a joint venture between AERQ, Lufthansa Technik, and LG Electronics.

AERQ AERENA IFE Delivers Agility And Speed

AERQ’s AERENA system allows the airline to rapidly update AVoD (Audio/Video on Demand), the user interface, or any application. Discover Airlines can customize its digital onboard product and personalize it to meet passenger needs. With smart data capturing, analytics, and matching, Discover Airlines can learn about the passengers’ entertainment demands and select the content their passengers most likely appreciate.

“Agility and speed in content updates, customization of the onboard product for a personalized passenger encounter, and opportunities for new ancillary revenues through gaming or destination content are the advantages that will be derived from the implementation of AERENA,” explained Son Yob (Louis) Pak, Co-Managing Director at AERQ.

Importantly, the AERENA Inseat System has obtained STC (supplemental type certificate) approval from EASA (European Union Aviation Safety Agency).

Discover Airlines Is World’s First To Offer AERENA Onboard

“We are proud to be the first airline to offer this special entertainment system. Discover Airlines guests experience one of the most advanced in-flight entertainment systems in the world on this aircraft. And we are working with our partner AERQ to improve it even further. Our goal is to test the new system in everyday life and, through feedback from our customers, to understand how the travel experience can be further improved and personalized,” explains Maximilian Meintgens, Director Product & Marketing at Discover Airlines. “The insights we collect during the test phase make an important contribution to the further development of the inflight entertainment experience for the entire Lufthansa Group.”

“We are very pleased that AERENA is now taking off and that both an airline and passengers can experience what our platform has to offer. Agility and speed when updating content, individual adjustments for a personalized encounter with guests, and the connection of a variety of partners and their services. These are just a few of the benefits that AERENA can offer airlines and their passengers,” explains Arnd Kikker, Co-Managing Director of AERQ.

“This joint project is a great example of how we can use innovation to continually improve the customer experience. We are pleased and proud that our investments in state-of-the-art in-flight entertainment, together with our partners AERQ and Discover Airlines, can now be experienced on our first aircraft,” says Xavier Lagardère, VP Innovation of the Lufthansa Group & Managing Director of the Lufthansa Innovation Hub.
