Air India Picks RECARO Economy and Premium Economy Seats

Air India Chooses RECARO for 22,000 Aircraft Seats in Upgrade Drive

Air India, India’s flagship airline, has struck a deal with RECARO Aircraft Seating for their widebody fleet’s premium economy and economy sections. Over 22,000 RECARO seats will enter Air India’s aircraft through line-fit and retrofit programs over the next five to six years.

Air India’s New Economy and Premium Economy Seating

The air carrier, celebrated for its expansive global network, will outfit its economy class with RECARO’s CL3710 and the newly unveiled CL3810 seats. The PL3530 model promises an unmatched comfort level for those flying premium economy.

Retrofitting begins in 2024 with 40 B787 and B777 planes and continues with a dozen line-fit A350 and B787s in 2025.

Air India has recently raised the stakes, ordering 34 A350 and B787 airplanes. These will feature the latest seating arrangements with the CL3810 and PL3530 models for economy and premium economy flyers, respectively.

Trim and Finish Tailored to Air India’s New Brand Image

The comfortable PL3530 in the premium economy offers a generous 7” recline and ample stowage space. The award-winning CL3710 in economy features an adjustable headrest with neck support to maximize sleep comfort. The CL3810, aimed at modern economy-class travelers, combines ergonomic design with ample legroom and lumbar support.

In aligning with Air India’s distinctive branding, all seats will display custom trim and finish, complete with the latest in-flight entertainment systems. These seats not only advance passenger comfort but they’re also designed with sustainability in mind. Built from durable yet lightweight materials, they contribute to the product’s longevity and reduce the aircraft’s carbon footprint.

“We are thrilled to embark on this journey with Air India as the recipient of this substantial award,” expressed Dr. Mark Hiller, CEO of RECARO Aircraft Seating and RECARO Holding. “We are eager to start this collaboration, bringing our innovative seating solutions and exceptional customer service to enhance Air India’s high-quality service standards.”

Air India’s CEO and MD, Campbell Wilson, was enthusiastic about the joint venture with RECARO. “This partnership will propel us to provide an advanced travel experience to our customers. It’s a crucial part of Air India’s transformation, increasing our appeal in the competitive landscape of global aviation.”
